§ Education Sector – Dr. Liz Russell-McKenzie, Chair
Dr. Russell-McKenzie recently replaced Dr. Trevor Sewell as the Co-Chair of the Education Sector. The JDNE extends its heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Dr. Sewell for his many years of service, and congratulates Dr. Russell-McKenzie on her appointment.
The Education sector has been asked by Mutual Building Societies Center for Excellence in Education to partner with them on a fundraising initiative, which the Board has accepted. The initiative includes providing school supplies, academic and training advisors and mentors from both Temple University (Pennsylvania) and University of Albany (New York). School supply collection for the Center for Excellence will be conducted regionally.
Donahue Bailey, the Jamaica Diaspora US Fund Raising Lead and also a member of the Education Sector, is leading the fundraising effort with the Center of Excellence and more specifically, the effort with Bank of America to endorse Jamaica Diaspora affinity credit cards. The deal is about to be finalized.
